· HPLC Method for Analysis of Fluvoxamine on Primesep 100 Column by SIELC Technologies
Fluvoxamine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRIs) with the chemical formula C 15 H 21 F 3 N 2 O 2 . It’s primarily used to treat a range of anxiety and obsessive-compulsive related disorders. When used to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, it helps decrease persistent/unwanted thoughts and urges to perform repeated tasks. With Anxiety Disorders, it helps to reduce worry, fear, and panic attacks. Occasionally, fluvoxamine might be used off-label for other purposes under a psychiatrist’s guidance. Fluvoxamine works by inhibiting the reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain, increasing the amount of serotonin available in the synaptic cleft and thus enhancing neurotransmission. This increase in serotonin levels is believed to help regulate mood and reduce the symptoms of anxiety and OCD.
Fluvoxamine can be retained, and analyzed on a Primesep 100 mixed-mode stationary phase column using an isocratic analytical method with a simple mobile phase of water, Acetonitrile (MeCN), and a sulfuric acid as a buffer. This analysis method can be detected using UV at 252 nm.
