Benzoic Acid is an organic acid with antimicrobial properties.  It is typically used in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals as a preservative against yeast and mold. As treatment, it is also used as a topical medicine of fungal skin infections. It can be naturally found in many berries and vegetable resins. With it’s chemical formula being C 7 H 6 O 2 , it is considered the simplest aromatic carboxylic acid. Benzoic Acid can be retained and analyzed using the Newcrom BH stationary phase column. The analysis utilizes an isocratic method with a simple mobile phase consisting of water and acetonitrile (MeCN) with sulfuric acid as a buffer. Detection is performed using UV.
