· High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) Method for Analysis of Shikimic Acid
Shikimic Acid , also known as shikimate , is a well-known biochemical intermediary integral to the metabolic process found in plants and microorganisms. It was first isolated from the Japanese shikimi flower, the Japanese star anise, which is where it gets its name. It has the chemical formula C 7 H 10 O 5 . This cyclohexanecarboxylic acid can be detected in the low UV regime. Using a Newcrom BH mixed-mode column and a mobile phase consisting of (mostly) water and acetonitrile, shikimic acid can be retained, measured, and analyzed. This analysis method can be UV detected at 200 nm with high resolution.
