Description

· HPLC Method for Analysis of Sodium erythorbate on Primesep B by SIELC Technologies

Sodium erythorbate is a common food preservative with the chemical formula C 6 H 7 NaO 6 . It has antioxidant properties, which makes it work well in a variety of meats, soft drinks, poultry, and occasional baked goods. Its use has increased as the US FDA has banned the use of sulfates in foods intended to be eaten fresh. It works through increasing the rate at which nitrite reduces to nitric oxide, which facilitates faster cure in meat. Sodium Erythorbate is derived primarily from beets, sugarcane, and corn.

Sodium erythorbate can be retained and analyzedon a Primesep B reverse-phase column using a gradient analytical method with a mobile phase consisting of Acetonitrile (MeCN), water, and Ammonium acetate (AmAc) as the ionic modifier. This analysis method can be UV detected at 250 nm with high resolution and peak symmetry.
